Yamaha Artist Concert Series
Herb Alpert Music Center, Yamaha Corporation, and Keyboard Concepts present the inaugural season of the Yamaha Artist Concert Series. This series will feature some of the most exciting names in jazz, classical, and contemporary piano music today with intimate solo recitals in the beautiful Herb and Lani Alpert Recital Hall, played on a wonderful brand new Yamaha DCFX grand piano. All proceeds go to the Student Scholarship Fund.

Hosted cocktail hour: 6:30pm (included with the purchase of a ticket)
Concert: 7:30pm
Tickets: $25
Students: Free (with ID; one per person; based on availability)

Alexandria Le  
Pianist Alexandria Le has been praised as a warm, animated, outgoing, confident, hypertalented pianist (Boston Musical Intelligencer) who is also a passionate and involved player (New York Classical Review). She enjoys a multi-faceted musical career, one which has brought her performances to the worlds leading stages, like Carnegie Hall, to where music is needed most, like the jails of Rikers Island.

David Kaplan
Pianist David Kaplan has been called excellent and adventurous by The New York Times, and praised by the Boston Globe for grace and fire at the keyboard. He has appeared as soloist with the Britten Sinfonia at Londons Barbican Centre, at Miamis Arscht Center with Itzhak Perlman, and in recital at the Ravinia Festival, Sarasota Opera House, Washingtons National Gallery, Music on Main in Vancouver and Strathmore in Baltimore. This season, he makes his debut at the Berlin Philharmonie, performing Beethovens Concerto no. 3 with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.

Milen Kirov
Described as a pianist with superhuman coordination, Dr. Milen Kirov is an award-winning Bulgarian-American performer, composer, and educator with an inimitable artistic voice and celebrated creative output. His career redefines the role of the performer-composer in 21st century by transcending genres, labels, and artistic boundaries. Combining his Bulgarian music heritage and concert pianist background with contemporary composition, jazz, world music, and improvisation, Dr. Kirov has carved a thriving career as a unique and respected artist.

Ory Shihor
Israeli-American Ory Shihor is an award-winning pianist, renowned pedagogue, respected educator and innovative entrepreneur. He has performed in prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including The Kennedy Center, Aspen Music Festival, Ravinia Festival in Chicago, The Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, Tonhalle in Germany and 92nd Street Y in New York, among many others. Mr. Shihors many awards and competition prizes include the Gina Bachauer Prize, Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Washington International Piano Competition and Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition.

Tamir Hendelman
Award-winning jazz pianist Tamir Hendelman has performed with the Jeff Hamilton Trio, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Harry Allen, Teddy Edwards, Warren Vache, Houston Person, Jeff Clayton, Nick Brignola, Phil Upchurch, Rickey Woodard, John Clayton and Barbara Morrison. He also leads his own trio and his debut CD "Playground" features him in this trio setting. Tamir has received awards from ASCAP and National Foundation For Advancement in the Arts, and his musical travels have taken him from Alaska to New York, and from Thailand to Israel.

Gerald Clayton
Gerald Clayton is one of the most exciting artists in the jazz world today. The four-time GRAMMY nominated pianist and composer has performed and recorded with such distinguished artists as Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove, Dianne Reeves, Ambrose Akinmusire, Dayna Stephens, Kendrick Scott, and John Scofield to name a few. The son of beloved bass player and composer John Clayton, he enjoyed a familial apprenticeship from an early age. Clayton honors the legacy of his father and all his musical ancestors through a commitment to artistic exploration, innovation, and reinvention.

Inna Faliks
Adventurous and passionate (The New Yorker) Ukrainian-born American pianist Inna Faliks has established herself as one of the most exciting, committed, communicative and poetic artists of her generation. Faliks has made a name for herself through her commanding performances of standard piano repertoire,  as well genre-bending interdisciplinary projects, and inquisitive work with contemporary composers. After her acclaimed teenage debuts at the Gilmore Festival and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, she has performed on many of the worlds great stages, with numerous orchestras, in solo appearances, and with conductors such as Leonard Slatkin and Keith Lockhart.

Carol Welsman
Carol Welsman is an internationally acclaimed Canadian singer and pianist whose expressive vocal styling and dynamic stage presence have captivated audiences around the world. Fluent in French, Italian and Spanish in addition to her native English, Carol blends languages (including Portuguese) and rhythms with a versatile repertoire including swing, samba, R & B, pop and jazz. She delivers a mix of American Songbook classics and original compositions in a style that ranges from sensuous and warm to infectiously energetic.

Lara Downes
Lara Downes is among the foremost American pianists of her generation, an iconoclast dedicated to expanding the resonance and relevance of live music for diverse audiences. A trailblazer on and off-stage, she follows a musical roadmap that seeks inspiration from the legacies of history, family, and collective memory. Downes playing has been called ravishing by Fanfare Magazine, "luscious, moody and dreamy  by The New York Times, and "addicting" by The Huffington Post. As a chart-topping recording artist, a powerfully charismatic performer, a curator and taste-maker, Downes is recognized as a cultural visionary on the national arts scene.

David Kaplan / Timo Andres piano duo
Pianist/composer Timo Andres and pianist/non-composer David Kaplan have performed together since they met as students at the Yale School of Music 2007, and have since appeared at London's Barbican Centre, Washington's National Gallery, Chicago's Ravinia Festival, and more.
Timo Andres is a composer and pianist who grew up in rural Connecticut and lives in Brooklyn, NY. A Nonesuch Records artist, he has received wide acclaim for an album of orchestral works, Home Stretch, and for his debut album, Shy and Mighty. As a pianist, Timo has appeared with the LA Phil, North Carolina Symphony, the Britten Sinfonia, the Albany Symphony, New World Symphony, and elsewhere; performed solo recitals for Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall, San Francisco Performances, the Phillips Collection, (le) Poisson Rouge; collaborated with Philip Glass, Jeffrey Kahane, Gabriel Kahane, Nadia Sirota, the Kronos Quartet, the Los Angeles Dance Project, John Adams, and others.
